Meet the team: Jason Dante, Commercial Manager

Tell us a little bit about your role with Subcon, what do you do day to day?

My role on Subcon is to reach out to a wide range of different clients and get an understanding of the company and what they need to achieve, then discuss the relevant commercial opportunities available. To help fulfil their objectives I also lead a dedicated team of Account Managers and meet with customers whenever I can.

What are you most excited about forward to accomplishing this year?
Building on our current successes and making our trio of shows the biggest and best I can but also forging relationships with organisations that will benefit our visitors and exhibitors.

What are you most excited about at Subcon 2019?
It’s always great to run a trio of co-located live events but for 2019 my personal highlight has to be the Supplier Showcase, which is giving a stage platform to exhibitors, so they can personally demonstrate their products to a receptive audience.

What was your childhood ambition?
to either be a professional boxer, a marine biologist or a film director. I liked to keep my options open!

What was your first job?
A commission-only door-to-door salesman in the rag trade, at the tender age of 16. My territories were Commercial Road and Seven Sisters High Road, London. I did it for four years with no car and only a travel card.

How do you like to relax what you’re not managing Subcon?
Watching Only Fools and Horses/Steptoe and Son/On the Buses/Carry On films/Red Dwarf etc with a cup of tea and box of Mr Kipling cakes.

What makes you cross?
Being unnecessarily rushed!

If you were a character in the Simpsons, who would you be?
Moe the bartender, he’s front of house and usually has a smile but always has ‘stuff’ going on in the back room.

What’s your idea of a really great night out?
In my experience great nights aren’t planned, they just happen but as long as I have a Cohiba it’ll be a great night.

What do you think is your best attribute?
My resilience!

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
when I was 12 years old I auditioned for Grange Hill TV programme and was offered the part but turned it down (my mother has never forgiven me).

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Never set yourself on fire to keep others warm!
